“Loving Island Life” November on Bainbridge

November is a beautiful month on Bainbridge Island.  While we aren’t crazy about the shorter days, we at Loving Island Life are enjoying the cool crisp air, the golden leaves swirling around our feet, and the gentleness of late autumn in the Pacific Northwest.  We have some suggestions for enjoying these beautiful days, both indoors and out.

It’s not too late, or too early, to start training for the annual Bainbridge Island Turkey Trot!  Homes for sale on Bainbridge IslandThanksgiving Day will be upon us in no time, and you’ll want to make room for that extra slice of pie by heading over to Battle Point Park on Thanksgiving morning to join fellow islanders in the 1 mile or 5K fun run!  We’ll be sending out more details as it gets closer, but we wanted to give you time to get a costume together.  What?  A costume, you say? Yes!  Because those who show up to run in a costume get a PRIZE!  Don’t miss out on this fun Bainbridge Island tradition.  Bring the relatives, they’ll love it.

This Friday November 6th, is the first Friday of the month, and we all know what that means.  It’s another chance to take in the works of our many talented local artists at Art Walk.

BIMA (Bainbridge Island Museum of Art) has a not to be missed exhibit for Dia de los Muertos.  No hablas Español?  It means Day of the Dead, and it’s a Mexican cultural celebration of life honoring loved ones who have passed – both human and animal.  On November 1st the public was asked to bring a photo or memento of a loved one for the altar of offerings.  It should be a lovely thing to see.  The Museum, store, and bistro will be open extended hours, 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  See what else is happening at BIMA, it’s always a happening place.

Another stop you’ll want to make during this month’s Art Walk is the Island Gallery.  Their new exhibition is called “Wood Odyssey” and features “Thoughtful and exciting works from Northwest artists.”  Visit the Island Gallery website for a sneak peek at some of the furniture and sculpture that will be on display.  You also won’t want to miss out on the sale they are having on their existing inventory of wood slabs, wall sculptures, benches, and desks.  Gorgeous!

For more eye candy, stop into Danger, Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, and Roby King.  Don’t forget, the BI Library on Madison, they have an exhibit of the works of Neil Johannsen.

If walking around downtown isn’t your thing, head over to Bainbridge Performing Arts this Friday, November 6th from 7:30 – 8:30 pm and enjoy music of the Andes with Quichua Mashsis Family Concert.  Formed by Quichua Indians from norther Ecuador, this band celebrates their connection to Pacha Mama (mother earth) and their spiritual journeys through music.  Check out the BPA website for this and many more upcoming performances that you won’t want to miss.

Hope to see you out around town!
