“Loving Island Life” Seafair in Seattle!

It’s looking like another gloriously sunny weekend, and we at “Loving Island Life” think a really fun way to usher in August will be to experience summer in Seattle at Seafair Weekend at Genesee Park/Lake Washington!  It’s a local Seattle tradition that dates back to 1951. With events in the air, on land, and water, there is something for everyone.  Here are some highlights of the weekend events.

Pretty much everyone loves the roar and excitement of the air show, and the North Beach (the center of the Boeing Air Show) is where the action will be.  The Blue Angels are back again this year with elite Navy pilots practicing and performing their air show over and around Lake Washington.  The spectacular performances are at 1:40 pm and there is open general admission seating along the beach.  The air show also features aircraft from the Flying Heritage Collection, the Air National Guard, U.S. Marines, and Breitling Jet Team. Be aware that the I90 bridge will be closed from 11:50 am to 2:40 pm Friday – Sunday to auto traffic.

To enjoy the tradition that started Seafair, you can watch the H1 Unlimited hydroplanes zip across Lake Washington. Qualifying races are held on Friday and Saturday leading up to the Seafair Cup Championship race on Sunday.  There will be live music, food vendors and interactive booths in the park area or get a pit pass to get an up-close look at hydroplanes and F1 Prop boats in the Stan Sayres Pits. Head down to the South Beach area to grab a beer and catch waves with some of the world’s most talented wakeboarders at the Hyperlite Wakeboard Experience.

Fleet week is also happening through Saturday.  U.S. Navy and Royal Canadian Navy ships are in town and the public is invited to tour some of them. Ships open to visitors are at piers 66, 69, and 90.
