“Loving Island Life” Coffee with a Cop
Well here’s something new, and another reason we are “Loving Island Life.” Ever wanted to have coffee with a cop? Want to express your appreciation, or make some suggestions? Now’s your chance for a relaxed, one-on-one conversation with some members of our Bainbridge Island police department!
On Wednesday, April 29, from 8 to 10 am, officers from the Bainbridge Island Police Department are inviting the community to join them for a cup of coffee and some conversation at the first-ever Bainbridge Island Coffee with a Cop.
What’s sure to be a fun and informative gathering will be held at Bainbridge Bakers, located at 140 Winslow Way West. Organizers said the Coffee with a Cop will give our community members a chance to ask questions in a casual setting and learn more about the department’s work in Bainbridge Island’s neighborhoods.
“We hope community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers. These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships,” said Police Chief Matthew Hamner in an interview in the Bainbridge Review.
Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments work to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

We also want to congratulate Brian Wilkinson, Josh Pippinger, Forest Hieptas and Scott Hartley who were part of a class of 41 firefighters who graduated Friday, April 17 at the Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien.
The recruits completed a 12-week recruit academy where they learned fire service principles through classroom instruction and rigorous hands-on live fire training. The course meets National Fire Protection Association 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications at the Firefighter I & II, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations Levels.
The police, fire department and all emergency responders on Bainbridge Island are literally life savers. The work they do is difficult and sometimes life threatening and we sure do appreciate all that they do for our community.
