“Loving Island Life” The Holidays on Bainbridge Island

December has arrived, and with it many traditional island activities and events! We at “Loving Island Life” love how the Bainbridge Island community comes together to share our good fortune with those who may be struggling, to support our local businesses, and to enjoy the amazing talent of our local artists and crafts people.
This is the time of year that we all draw close to family and friends to celebrate peace and joy. That generally includes exchanging gifts and sharing tasty treats. Our community is fortunate to have Helpline House, for those who don’t have family nearby, or have limited resources.
Founded in the 1960s as a food bank in response to the “war on poverty”, Helpline House is a community-funded non-profit agency providing a full range of services. Basic services are provided cost-free to those in need. Needs are defined broadly, and are not always financial. Any community member in crisis or in need of social work consultation, volunteer opportunities or other related service is welcome at Helpline House.” Go to the Helpline House Website for volunteer or donation opportunities.

This weekend, December 4th, 5th, and 6th is Christmas in the Country! You’ll need to check out their website, because there is so much going on we couldn’t begin to list it all here. Christmas shopping island style, food, music, and a jolly good time!

“Christmas in the Country, held annually the first Friday, Saturday & Sunday of December, is Bainbridge Island’s premier winter holiday event. Launching the celebration of the Christmas season each year since 1993, this beloved community event supports home-based business entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, artists, authors, and musicians. Following a map, visitors will drive the winding, tree-lined, rural roads on Bainbridge and stop at quaint historic cottages, farms, fascinating homes hand built by the owners, and nonprofit venues. One can experience first hand a historical perspective of some of the early 1900 Bainbridge Island homes or meet native born Islanders who are descendants of individuals significant to Island history. Venues are tucked deep within tall stands of Douglas fir and cedar trees and others in various neighborhood hills and dales, some of them built between 1910-1930 in conjunction with two large sawmills that operated on both ends of the Island. The Christmas in the Country tour allows you to explore backwoods Bainbridge and experience private homes and buildings while shopping for unique, handmade art, gift items, and epicurean delights created by local and regional artists and authors.”
