“Loving Island Life” Vashon Island Estate

Aerial view of two houses with dark roofs surrounded by trees, near a body of water. A driveway and landscaped garden are visible between the houses.

Retreat to a private 14.43 acre compound & 275′ of no-bank waterfront on the sunny west-facing shore of Vashon’s Quartermaster Harbor. The grounds are utterly peaceful; the estate boasts 7970 square feet with 2 guest houses, art studio, library, gourmet kitchen, spa, sauna, home theaters, huge covered porches, geothermal heat/air, waterside gazebo, gas & wood fire pits, bocce ball plus full security & earthquake engineering. Golf and tennis club nearby. Wow!

The main house was built between 1993 and 1995 by Ed Palmer Construction for John Ratzenburger, who moved to Vashon from Los Angeles after his role as “Cliff the Mailman” on the television show Cheers ended with the show. Ratzenburger had completed the adjacent guest cottage a few years earlier, and it had been featured in Sunset magazine.

In the summer of 2001 a remodel of both the main house and adjacent guest cottage began. The architecture of the remodel was accomplished in consultation both with the original architect of the house, Rex Holbein, and Seattle architect Dave Dykstra. The structural engineer was Mike Wright.  The grounds were designed in consultation with Michael Lee, a landscape architect who also did the plant selection (all highly drought-tolerant plantings that were “watered in” properly for two years and have not required watering since).

This is truly an extraordinary Estate in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.  For more information about the Bainbridge Island Real Estate Market, Condominiums, Luxury Waterfront Homes, Equestrian Properties, and Estates and Farms, as well as other Island Luxury Waterfront properties visit www.homesforsaleonbainbridgeisland.com.
