The leaves are turning and even though we may see gray and rainy days ahead, there are still plenty of opportunities to connect with your Island neighbors at seasonal festivals and weekly events. I look forward to seeing you out in the community so that we can connect as we start to bring 2021 to a close.
THIS FALL
Jess Henderson & Friends at Eleven Winery
Date: Oct. 3
The winery opens from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. with live music setting the mood from 1-4. Jess Henderson has been digging into jazz standards, inspired by the freedom that comes from stretching rhythms and dancing around a melodic line.
Within/Earshot Jazz Festival
Date: Oct. 5-30
Bainbridge Island Museum of Art’s annual festival celebrating all things jazz is back in person this October. With four concerts, four films, and two lectures, this festival is sure to have something for every jazz cat out there! Masks and proof vaccination is required at the museum, and if you’d like to watch from home, BIMA is working with KCTS 9 to film and broadcast all of the festival concerts.
Jenny Davis and Chuck Easton at Eleven Winery
Date: Oct. 10
Jazz vocalist Jenny Davis and jazz guitarist Chuck Easton are a finely honed duo who draw in audiences to the intimacy and thrill of the jazz genre. They’ll be lighting up the Eleven winery stage from 1-4 p.m. – winery open from 12-8 p.m.
Sunday FUNDday – Poulsbo Community Orchestra
Date: Oct. 17
Join Eleven Winery for a good cause as they donate 100% of their tasting fees and glass pours, plus 10% of all bottle purchases to the Poulsbo Community Orchestra. The Poulsbo Community Orchestra (PCO) is made up of musicians from the Puget Sound region who rehearse weekly with three scheduled concerts. It’s a great opportunity to learn firsthand how an orchestra functions and what it takes to mount a musical performance. This event will only be held at the winery location—open 12-8 p.m.; live music from 1-4 p.m.
Pumpkin Carving Contest
Date: Entries due Monday, October 18
Let your spooky Halloween vision be your guide and submit your creatively carved pumpkin to be featured on the Haunted Hayride pumpkin pyramid! The Haunted Hayride Committee will select 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Pumpkins must be well-gutted and able to sit outside for the entirety of the three-day event. Entries are due on Monday, October 18 at the Battle Point Park maintenance shop yard. Email [email protected] with questions.

Haunted Hayride
Date: Oct. 19-21
Starting at the south end of Battle Point Park cars will enter the Haunted Hayride at the west entrance on Battle Point Drive NE and ending at the Arrow Point Drive NE exit. All the attractions/performances for this family-friendly event are ongoing on the course, with no stops! Registration required, $25 a vehicle.
Jason McCue at Eleven Winery
Date: Oct. 24
Seattle Weekly and KEXP praise this Seattle alt-folk musician as an artist who can fill an entire space with hypnotizing vocals, tangible emotions, and intricate finger-picking. Jason McCue will play at the Winery from 1-4 p.m., doors open to tastings and sips from 12-8 p.m.
Halloween Walk
Date: Oct. 31
Downtown merchants will close Winslow Way at 3:30 p.m. on Halloween and sponsor a safe trick-or-treating evening with spooky family fun. Costume-up, enjoy the spooky tunes at the Eagle Harbor Church bell tower, imbibe in free hot cider, and cast your vote for the best merchant costume at the Downtown Association booth.

First Friday Art Walk
Date: First Friday of every month
Celebrate the first Friday of every month strolling through downtown Bainbridge enjoying art, food, and film from our community! Don’t forget to pop in at Realogics SIR’s Island Living Gallery office to enjoy a rotating selection of fabulous musicians and artists from around the Puget Sound.
Farmers Market
Date: Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm through Nov 27
Shop local and support our favorite returning vendors with fantastic new additions. As we head into fall, the farmers market is the perfect place to find those comfort food favorites and stock up on the produce and extras you’ll want to make your fall gatherings, and of course, Thanksgiving, so special. All amid local buskers and neighborhood artisans offering crafts and wares that will take you through 2021 and beyond.

The leaves are changing, and Bainbridge is a divine place to take in every hue of orange, yellow, and red! The leaves are changing now, and the peak season hits around mid-October, just don’t wait too long or the leaves will fall before you get your chance. Whether looking for more of a hike or a casual stroll, I recommend three quintessential island locations for turning foliage: Fort Ward Park, Battle Point Park, and Bloedel Reserve.
