“Loving Island Life” Bainbridge Holidays
Bainbridge Island during the Holiday Season is always a unique and special place that warms your heart and soul even if the days are short and the rain prevails. When you really take it in you realize that winter, and with it the weather, are vital to making our island such an extraordinary place. Residents are not deterred as they flock to downtown to enjoy lunch with a loved one, or a latte with a friend. When I stopped in to Bainbridge Bakers and told Mike (the owner) I needed some caffeine and sweets to give me energy he said “What you need Sonja is some goodness and that’s what we bake here”. Amen, that was exactly what I needed. Now that I was fortified, I set out with my husband and puppy Maxx to experience the magic of the holidays on Bainbridge Island.
As we walked downtown we passed the Village Green with its lighted Christmas tree and festive decorations. Winslow Way was bustling with shoppers doing their last minute Christmas shopping, while few brave souls dined outside Hitchcock Restaurant under their new awnings, sipping coffee and taking in the scenery. All of the storefronts were festively decorated and the shopkeepers busy, yet well-staffed for the last minute shoppers. One of the benefits of Island Life, is that folks are polite, courteous and unbelievably friendly. Of course, our puppy Max wants to be everyone’s friend so introductions are frequent. I started my shopping at Petit and Olson where you can find the perfect selection of fashionable wears to fit every taste. These ladies have an awesome store and I plan to feature it soon in my blog. The next stop was a new store called Intentional Table. They are soon to feature cooking classes and have everything gourmet. What a perfect fit for Bainbridge and I’m so looking forward to the classes! Moving on to Wildernest outdoor store, I needed a headlamp for hiking and dog walking on these short days and few other things for Santa. Town & Country Market was lite up in its festive red and white lights with Islanders stocking up for their Holiday Dinner with gourmet groceries from the best market ever.
I wish I had the time to talk about all of the shops, shopkeepers, and truly wonderful people that make this island such a special place to live. Each week I will continue to feature a local business or event in my “Loving Island Life” blog that hopefully paints a picture of our unique and wonderful lifestyle here on Bainbridge Island. Warmest Holidays to all!
