Here are Inside Bainbridge recommendations for the weekend of May 18-20, 2012:

1. Viking Fest
Where: Poulsbo Waterfront Park
When: Friday, 12-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m.-9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
Why: Yes, it’s off the Island, but you can handle it. Viking Fest is a, well, smorgasbord of events, with pageant crownings, Norwegian folk dancers, pancake breakfast (I’m guessing with lingonberries), a beer garden, a paddleboard race, lots of music, a lutefisk-eating contest, cloggers, and a cupcake war, whatever that is, among many other things. 2. Electronics Recycling Fundraiser
Where: Bainbridge First Baptist Church, at the corner of Highway 305 and Madison Ave.
When: Friday, 4-7 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Why:

  • Get rid of your old electronics responsibly for a small fee ($1 for the small stuff like cell phones, $10 for monitors and printers, and $20 for a complete PC).
  • Benefit Boy Scout Troop 1496, defraying the cost of service projects around the Island.

3. Baseballarama 
Where: The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum grounds, 215 Ericksen Avenue NE.
When: Saturday, 2-6 p.m.
Why:

  • This historic celebration of baseball includes baseball memorabilia, and vintage photos and movies.
  • Just like if you were at a game, you can overstuff yourself on hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, chips, pop, and beer.
  • You get to wear your old uniform, if it still fits (see above).
  • There’s a raffle and prizes for the most current and former baseball team members.
  • Pose for a photo with the Mariner Moose (2-3:15 p.m.).

4. Fred Eaglesmith at Treehouse
Where: Treehouse Cafe, 4569 Lynwood Center Rd.
When: Saturday, 8 p.m.
Why: Come on all you Fredheads: Listen to the guy in the cool coat.

5. Woman Unadorned
Where: The Pavilion
When: All day Sunday
Why: Thirty-four local women (41 to 76) sat for Suquamish-based photographer John Wood, wearing no makeup and, basically, appearing just the way they are. See if you can recognize your best friend. The photographer hopes to publish the exhibit in book form. 6. Matinees That Matter: Play Again
Where: The Historic Lynwood Theatre, 4569 Lynwood Center Rd. NE
When: Sunday, 5 p.m.
Why: For just $9 you get to (sit inside and on a screen) watch this documentary about six teens who spend 5 to 15 hours a day engaged with electronic screens being “forced” outside into the wilderness, sans electricity.
