“Loving Island Life” About Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island – A Top Ten Enclave

Bainbridge Island may be a 65-square mile city in the center of Puget Sound but it remains highly accessible – it’s just a 30 minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle. The storybook community of Winslow offers main street amenities such as organic grocery stories, eclectic restaurants, art galleries and other modern conveniences and yet has preserved an authentic charm that’s been a hallmark to this island community. Once a summertime playground for Seattle’s affluent families in the 1930’s, the island experienced exponential growth in the 1990’s and is today home to more than 23,000 residents. The otherwise low key island lifestyle was perhaps most publically broadcast in the 1994 movie “Disclosure” starring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore, which was partially filmed on Bainbridge Island.

“Much like the portrayal in the (Disclosure) movie, many residents want to work in the city but retreat each day to this unique island community,” says Stacy Jones, an owner of Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty, who recently opened branch office on Bainbridge Island. “With an island-paced lifestyle, award-winning school district and favorable relative value to the mainland – the word is getting out and demand is expanding.”

In 2011, executives at Realogics Sotheby’s International Realty participated in a nationwide study with TopTenRealEstateDeals.com to identify the best island enclaves in the US and showcase unique homes for sale within each community. Each island and home was independently judged on criteria that included convenience of access to a major metro area, overall quality of life, historic significance, proximity to services and cultural activities, local amenities, interior design of the homes and the “island feel” of the entire package. Bainbridge Island earned the top spot at #1 and nearby Vashon Island was ranked #9 in the US. The study and the media coverage can be found on CNBC.com and RealogicsSothebysRealty.com.

“These are the homes and places where we can get away from the congestion and commotion of everyday city life but still live close enough to the desired transportation, recreation, culture and urban amenities that we love and enjoy,” states Jason Wakefield the Marketing Director for TopTenRealEstateDeals.com. “We were most impressed with Bainbridge Island in Washington State – the beauty, the views and the lifestyle is simply unrivaled among the collection of properties we explored.”
