“Loving Island Life” Paraffine Candle Store

An oval sign with the word "Paraffine" written in cursive font hangs outside, under an awning.

Well, March certainly blew in like a lion this year!  We at “Loving Island Life” know that this time of year can be pretty blustery, and an occasional power outage is not unheard of on the island.  As I was sitting last night in the soft glow of the fireplace and enjoying the beauty of candlelight, I was thinking how lucky we are to have Paraffine, a most delightful candle store, in Winslow.  If you haven’t been there yet, you should definitely check it out.  The store is brimming with unique, high quality candles of all kinds and colors. You will also find beautiful candle holders, tea, and other gift items throughout this wonderful store. The owner has been at the current location, 152 Winslow Way E, for many years and has some interesting stories to share.  I’ve been able to find exactly what I was looking for every time I’ve needed candles, and at prices that were below an unnamed online source! You can phone 360-842-4119 for store hours, or more information.

It’s the first week of the month, and of course that means Art Walk!  This month, the gallery at Bainbridge Performing Arts has a new show.  “Join us in the BPA Gallery for an artist reception and a fun evening of art, food, and friends. Both the landscape and the community inspired a new body of work for Ayan Rivera after his recent move to Bainbridge Island. Sumi painting is both a creative and a mindfulness practice. Ayan paints “for the brief moments when the eye, hand, and brush move together without the mind and when letting go allows something else to move through.” First Friday Art Walk: Friday @ 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.”

Roby King Gallery will have a solo exhibition by Robert Schlegel. Read more about this artist at the Roby King website.

Island Gallery will have “Reflecting Nature’s Moods,” a new showing of works by Renee Jameson and Jen Till. Stop by between 6pm and 8pm for a glass of wine and to meet these talented artists. More information can be found at the Island Gallery website.

Our downtown is a lively place on First Fridays, and we hope it’s a great start to a wonderful weekend for you!
